I just read an article on Digital Trends where the two authors gushed about the qualities, specs, and looks of the new ThinkPhone, but then bemoaned the fact that ordinary folks won’t be able to buy it.
Ha! I thought. The ThinkPhone has been designed specifically for the business market. Due to its launch in the spring, it is perfectly conceived for SMBs and enterprises – the kind of businesses that you, our ConectUS partners, are supporting every day.
As you’ve already surmised, the ThinkPhone is intended to remind you of the qualities of the ThinkPad, introduced by IBM in 1992 and taken under Lenovo’s wing in 2005. The ThinkPad has always been highly respected. A quick glance at Wikipedia tells us that for years it was the only laptop range certified for service on the International Space Station.
Lenovo went on to acquire Motorola Mobility in 2014 and has been growing the latter’s market share in the U.S. ever since. Last year Motorola hit an all-time high of 12%, placing it in third place for smartphone sales, behind Apple and Samsung.
The ThinkPhone is an impressive device. It comes with the same Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset as, say, Motorola’s Edge+ 2020, Z Fold4 and Z Flip4, and Samsung’s S22 range (in most of the world). It has two good rear cameras: a 50-megapixel stabilized standard wide lens and a 13-megapixel ultrawide. It has a 6.6-inch OLED screen that has become the most popular size for business use. However, the most impressive specs are the security features and ThinkPad integrations, such as a shared clipboard and automatic connection over Wi-Fi. The Moto Secure app allows IT remote access such as lock screen settings and network alerts, plus a KeySafe processor adds security for PINs and passwords
Other pluses are 68W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and a 5,000mAh battery. And the body texture is so pleasing that you may not wish to buy a case: it’s MIL-STD 810H certified. That is, able to withstand extreme temperatures, moisture, dust, and shock in tested conditions.
Our partners and business clients are getting very excited about this smartphone, and we’ll have updates over the next couple if months. We’ve also booked Motorola experts to join us on Partner News – LIVE, our regular video webcast, to tell us more as the launch date approaches. So, as they say, watch this space!
